Tobogganing in the Wipptal

Kristall

In the Wipptal holiday region in Tyrol there are a total of 9 toboggan runs spread across all mountain valleys. The longest of the natural toboggan runs is Maria Waldrast in Matrei with a length of 5 km. All lifts have a place to stop for refreshments on the mountain or in the valley in order to strengthen and warm up. Some of the tracks are illuminated at night so that tobogganing fun is also guaranteed in the evening.

Fun with the sledge for the whole family
In glorious sunshine or under the starry sky, whether with children, friends or just as a couple - sledding is fun in the wintry natural landscape. Our toboggan runs in the Brenner region have two different levels of difficulty (easy and medium-difficult). You can find more detailed information on the interactive map. We recommend all, but especially sporty tobogganers and children, to wear a helmet on the descent!

Comfortable sledding
For those tobogganers who want to save themselves the ascent, there is the possibility of taking the gondola up at the Bergeralmbahn in Steinach. You can take a shuttle taxi to Maria Waldrast. There is also a toboggan rental at both toboggan runs.

Cross-country skiing in Tyrol

In the Wipptal and its mountain valleys there are approx. 70 km of cross-country trails of all levels of difficulty. Approximately 40 km of this is in the mountaineering village of Gschnitztal and has been awarded the Tyrolean trail seal of approval. In the higher mountain valleys, e.g. In the mountaineering villages Schmirn & Gschnitz or on Maria Waldrast there are particularly snow-sure trails. Our plus: all cross-country trails in the Wipptal are free!

Cross-country skiing paradise in the mountaineering village of Gschnitztal
Because of its spaciousness, the beautiful landscape and the good preparation, all the trails in the Gschnitztal have been awarded the Tyrolean trail seal of approval and are probably one of the most beautiful places for cross-country skiing in Tyrol.

Ski tours around Mühlbachl

Kristall

The Wipptal holiday region is nestled between the Zillertal and Stubai Alps and stretches from Innsbruck to over the Brenner Pass in South Tyrol. The unbelievable variety of degrees of difficulty and scenic highlights as well as the guaranteed snow due to the favorable location on the weather divide between North and South Tyrol make the Wipptal an absolute hotspot of the Tyrolean ski touring scene.

Best location, varied diversity
The Tux and Zillertal Alps, which include the east-facing mountain valleys Navis, Schmirn and Vals, offer an abundance of alpine touring options at various levels of difficulty. The Gschnitztal and Obernbergtal valleys on the west side of the Stubai Alps also attract visitors with their untouched slopes and an untouched and unique natural backdrop. Sustainable and nature-friendly ski touring tourism has developed in the Obernbergtal in particular: information brochures and boards indicate the protected areas in which, for example, the black grouse and capercaillie should remain undisturbed.
